UBER Loses Its Licence To Operate In London

London’s transportation authority, Transportation For London or TFL, has declined to renew their license to operate in London. They don’t believe Uber is fit to hold a private vehicle hire license and announced today that they will not be renewing theirs when it expires on September 30th.
The TFL says that Uber’s “approach and conduct demonstrate a lack of corporate responsibility in relation to a number of issues which have potential public safety and security implications.” This decision will provide an inconvenience to Uber’s 3.5 million users and its 40,000 drivers who will now have to find other sources of income.
Uber’s London general manager Tom Elvidge says that the company plans to challenge the TFL’s decision. “To defend the livelihoods of all those drivers, and the consumer choice of millions of Londoners who use our app, we intend to immediately challenge this in the courts,” he said Friday.
